Ok, yet another reason to be annoyed as hell with FEMA. I’m trying apply online for my parents [via my Mac Powerbook] and got this message:
In order to use this site, you must have JavaScript Enabled and Internet Explorer version 6.
Download it from Microsoft or call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) to register.
Whatever!

I have been trying to get my elderly parents a trailer or portable home and FEMA says they have none available, but they purchased all the travel trailers from the local market to house their employees. Also the tuesday after the storm hit FEMA disconnected the repeaters for the First Responders so they could have their own radio system hooked up. Why do they need radios to write checks ? They suck, I am glad the director was canned and a Firefighter took over FEMA.

If you enable the debug menu in Safari you can set the User Agent to MSIE 6.0. The site will work just fine after this and you can fill out the forms for your parents with no problem.
Just remember to set the User Agent back to Automatically Chosen after your done.
To find out how to enable the debug menu, search on macosxhints.com or google for it. I can’t remember the command right off the top of my head.

FEMA sucks ass
FEMA has a nice little website where you can apply for aid. However, “to complete your application online you must be using Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 6.0 or above.” no, really.
What a fucking load of crap. The people impacted by the disaster have suffered anough without havinng to deal with this sort of total fucking bullshit. What moron at FEMA decided to put together an assistance website that only runs on IE 6.0 on Windows XP. I’m sure all the poor people who have older computers running Windows 98, ME or whatever are really wishing they’d upgraded now. Oh wait, they probably lost everything they have anyway and don’t have power. Sure, Windows XP is the leading OS, and other systems (Mac OS X, Mac OS 7-9, all Linux, older Windows versions) are small minorities of the population, but.… oh wait… no buts, minorities don’t count in the Bush administration except where they can further the Bush Adgenda. Billionaires are useful, multi-millionaires are too, CEOs of Fortune 500’s (never enough of them to go around, we really should do something to help them out), token non-white people to spew the Bush PR garbage—all priceless.

FOR WHAT IT IS WORTH I DID FILL OUT THEIR FORM ON LINE. FEMA DENIED ME CAUSE I SPENT MY HARD EARNED MONEY ON INSURANCE.WHO HAS YET TO SHOW UP.FEMA IS HANDING OUT THOUSANDS AT A LICK TO PEOPLE WHO DIDN’T SPEND THEIR MONEY ON INSURANCE.WHATS A HARD WORKING FAMILY TO DO?

I applied too, my app was denied, I still don’t know why, but the Small Business Administration is going to send me an application for a freakin’ loan…maybe this is where they intend to come up with some funds for the financial industry bail out, the already poor having to take out loans from a source that is no doubt government owned, ad another job to already stretched lives to pay it off (plus the interest), along with taxes on what we EARN (the government needs to look up the definition of that word), then we get to pay MORE taxes on EVERYTHING we have to buy just to survive from paycheck to paycheck…and if you’re like MOST people, do it all without health or home insurance while trying to also balance in the fuel bill and family if you’ve got one. I would really like to know if anyone has ever put pen to paper and figured out exactly how much of each dollar we earn we actually get to keep???? OH, nevermind, I just looked in my wallet, the anser is .09 cents!! I don’t get it, we pay our taxes, we drone along with everything else the government puts on us, so where are they when it’s time to help those who put food on THEIR tables and fat on their asses???

I truly wonder what the percentage of applications denied are from the caucasion persuation. Not a racist here, but one has to wonder. FEMA Denied my family with RITA and now with IKE. I remember sleeping in parking lots with my four kids counting change for bread and peanut butter while I saw people with Louisiana plates with Dillards bags with expensive sunglasses, games, music, etc. with the trash they left on the ground I found a fema letter. Wow! This time I stayed home and bought a generator and chainsaw. Still denied, but I am much better off. I am working two jobs now to pay off Rita and now IKE…..Thanks for nothing FEMA. Took me almost three years to pay for Rita.
